Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a time-tested, natural medicine that helps decrease pain and restore targeted bodily functions.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a time-tested, holistic medicine that can help to decrease pain and restore function.
While acupuncture is exceptional at treating any kind of pain condition, in the hands of a well-trained and experienced clinician, it has many broader applications.
It is also helpful for internal conditions like anxiety, GI problems, fertility, thyroid, allergies and much more. Science is only beginning to grasp this powerful medicine and understand the mechanisms behind it.
Your Evaluation Comes First
Every new patient begins with a personalized consultation. During this visit, Dr. Lisa McCoog will review your history, assess your symptoms, and determine whether acupuncture is the right fit for you.
If you are a candidate, we’ll design a customized treatment plan that may include acupuncture alone or in combination with other services such as dry needling, ATP Resonance BioTherapy®, or O3 ReBoot Therapy® for a more comprehensive approach
What to Expect from Acupuncture
Time in the Clinic
A typical acupuncture session lasts 30–45 minutes.
Many patients find it easy to fit into their weekly schedule.
Course of Care
The number of treatments varies depending on your condition, how long you’ve had it, and your overall health.
Chronic issues may require a series of visits, while acute concerns often improve more quickly. Once progress is made, some patients shift to monthly tune-ups to maintain results.
Treatment Frequency
Acupuncture is often recommended 2–4 times per week during the initial phase of care.
After maximum improvement is reached, maintenance sessions are used to prevent symptoms from returning.
Results
For many patients, acupuncture brings meaningful relie, even in conditions that have persisted for years.
Outcomes may include reduced pain, better mobility, improved sleep, or resolution of symptoms altogether.
Absence of Symptoms
Acupuncture can and often results in a complete absence of symptoms, even in severe pain conditions that have been present for years.
Common Questions about Acupuncture
Am I A Candidate?
Most patients are. Acupuncture has been shown to influence multiple systems in the body, from circulation to the nervous system.
Even people who haven’t found relief elsewhere often respond well to treatment.
What Does It Feel Like?
The needles are very fine, and most people are surprised by how easy the process is. Some feel a mild sensation at insertion, while others barely notice.
Many patients relax so deeply they nap during their session.
How Soon Will I See Results?
It depends on the individual. Some feel immediate changes, while others notice improvement gradually across a treatment series.
During your consultation, we’ll set expectations based on your specific case.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
For long-standing or complex conditions, we may recommend 2–3 visits per week for several months.
Acute issues usually require fewer visits. For general wellness or prevention, monthly sessions are common.
Is Acupuncture Covered By Insurance?
Acupuncture is not typically covered by insurance, and when it is, coverage is often too limited to provide full benefit.
At Lighthouse Acupuncture & Wellness Center, we operate as an out-of-network provider, which means your care plan is based on what you need, not what an insurance company dictates. If you’d like, we can provide a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
